He walked into the auditorium at the High School one day and said, "Can I help?" and from then on he was involved in most everything involved in that auditorium. Lights, sounds, building sets, acting, singing, playing the viola... It was Home Sweet Home to him.
Then one summer morning Nick said to his Not-Quite-A-Freshman-Yet sister, "Hey come with me and help build a set for the fall play..." She protested. "I hate teching! Plus I don't know anyone there! Why would they want me there?!? I don't even go to that school yet!!" After pointing out that she had absolutely nothing else to do that day, all her friends were busy, and promising that I would pick her up if she were absolutely miserable, I dropped them off. She stayed that whole day, and went back every day that week. She began her first day of high school with a handful of sophomore, junior, and senior friends. Now I watch her befriend other freshman, and confidently step up as a leader whenever the need arises in the auditorium.
