No, it's not what you think, but we are talking about babies here. Yesterday the kids came running in to tell me they found a praying mantis on our "Yes on 102" sign in our front yard.
And then I got a closer look.
It's little bum was working pretty hard, and then I started wondering what exactly are those grayish-brown things behind it, and then I decided that it was laying eggs.
And yes, when I went out to check it out this morning, the mama was gone, but the eggs are still there. We're pretty excited, praying mantis' are supposed to be good for your yard, but voting is over on Tuesday, and I have no idea how long it takes those babies to hatch. I think we're going to have to transplant the sign to the backyard. I'll keep my eyes open, and if I happen to witness any further miracles of life, I'll be sure to take a picture.
